October 1962 Issue

The October 1962 issue of Kitan Club combines extensive bondage photography, fetish illustration, autobiographical confession, speculative and historical fiction, essays on sexual psychology, equipment and clothing fetishes, reader testimony, and community-oriented back matter. The prose section begins with “The Germination of Inversion,” a prize-winning autobiographical confession tracing childhood displacement, theatrical training, gender identification, family conflict, and the gradual formation of a divided sexual identity. “Desire to Become a Slave” adopts the voice of a male servant describing ritualized submission to a wealthy mistress, while “The Hidden Side of Human Nature” reflects on confessional writing, foot fetishism, domination, and the psychological contradictions revealed by readers’ testimonies. The central literary feature is the long SM novel “Somewhere in the Universe,” which relocates slavery and coercion to an imagined extraterrestrial society. Around it, the issue offers fantasies based on riding breeches, captured girls, diapers, mirrors, female wrestling, rubber clothing, dormitory initiation, suspension, and historical or foreign settings. “Female Slave Story” is another substantial narrative, presented as a woman’s account of captivity in a speculative world. Shorter pieces move between documentary-style testimony and fiction, including the serialized “Thirty-Nine Nights,” an invitation to submit to a tyrant, a cutting fantasy, an account of Sardinia, an examination of obesity as a fetish, comments on bondage in recent films, and memories attached to flannel undergarments and toilets. Later sections broaden the issue’s treatment of gender and power through biographies of forceful women, theatrical reminiscence, and the romantic story “A Splendid Punishment.” The closing pages contain reader letters, club correspondence, questionnaires, rankings and tabulations, publication notices, classified exchanges, advertisements, and editorial material.
