Summary

This surviving November 1961 Uramado segment is a compact, almost entirely photographic sequence organized around two contrasting approaches to the bound female body. The opening feature, Posing Nude, photographed by Fujisawa Osamu, presents a nude woman against a plain interior wall under hard directional lighting. Her shadow becomes an important compositional element, doubling the figure and emphasizing the contours produced by the pose. The sequence progresses from an unbound standing nude into increasingly compressed rope positions, including arms drawn behind the back, kneeling restraint, and rope passed around the upper torso. There is very little narrative text; the feature functions primarily as a formal photographic study of posture, body shape, shadow, and rope.

The second and much longer feature, Maiden Seeking Rescue, photographed by Fukamori Eishi, changes from abstract posing to a staged narrative. A woman is shown bound in a furnished hotel room, initially seated on the bed and then struggling across the room while attempting to escape or summon assistance. Short captions construct a suspense scenario: a man has confined her and gone out to summon someone; she realizes that she must escape quickly; she drags her restrained body from the bed; and she notices a telephone that may allow her to call the hotel switchboard for help.

The photography follows her physical effort closely. She shifts from the bed to the floor, crawls and kneels beside furniture, reaches toward the telephone with her hands still tied behind her, and finally manages to bring the receiver within reach. The telephone becomes the central narrative prop, transforming an otherwise static bondage tableau into a miniature photographic drama. On the final page, just as she desperately tries to use the fallen receiver, footsteps from the man and his boss are heard outside the door, leaving the sequence at a moment of renewed danger.

Together the two features demonstrate two important modes of Uramado's early-1960s visual culture. Posing Nude treats bondage principally as photographic composition, emphasizing form and shadow, whereas Maiden Seeking Rescue uses similar restraint imagery as sequential erotic storytelling. The juxtaposition shows the magazine moving easily between studio nude photography and staged captivity narrative, with rope serving both aesthetic and dramatic functions.
