The issue’s most distinctive development is its treatment of erotic representation as something deliberately manufactured. The figures are detached from narrative setting and arranged almost as specimens. This makes the page function as visual taxonomy: the reader compares how different positions expose, fold, or distort the body.
The color plate on PDF page 6 returns to historical punishment fantasy, combining inverted suspension, domestic architecture, and a male observer. Historical costume supplies distance, while the composition directs attention toward the contrast between the suspended body and the surrounding interior. The image uses coercion as spectacle and offers no reciprocal account of the subjected woman’s experience.
PDF pages 7–9 reproduce drawings attributed to Itō Seiu and discussed by Murata Seiichi. These close studies emphasize hair, bent posture, disordered clothing, and the downward turn of the face. Rather than illustrating a complete event, they isolate emotional and bodily details associated with exhaustion, captivity, and shame. The Dying White Swan, on PDF pages 10–13, combines text and images by Tsuzuki Mineko. A woman is shown restrained in a sequence of increasingly compressed positions, including floor bondage, attachment to furniture, and inverted suspension. The swan metaphor aestheticizes suffering by associating the body with tragic performance and graceful decline.
The issue then shifts from illustrated fantasy to staged outdoor photography. At an Outdoor Punishment Ground, on PDF pages 14–17, places a clothed woman among trees before progressively revealing more restrictive poses. The forest creates isolation and apparent danger, while the sequence’s changing costume and body position construct a narrative of capture. The feature is clearly staged, but the camera borrows the appearance of discovered evidence.
PDF pages 18–19 assemble Western paintings of men pursuing or assaulting women. The section creates an international genealogy of sexual danger by drawing on canonical art. The historical prestige of painters such as Rubens or artists in that tradition does not neutralize the coercive content. Instead, cultural authority becomes a frame through which the magazine legitimizes erotic looking.
Gymnasium Warehouse, on PDF pages 20–22, transfers captivity into a modern institutional setting. Illustrated frames show a woman surrounded by male students, tied to a post, compressed by thick rope, and subjected to escalating treatment. The warehouse or athletic-store setting mixes youthful modernity with improvised punishment apparatus, making domination appear close to everyday life rather than safely historical.
The issue proper begins on PDF page 24 with Modern Sadism, by Kuruki Sakae. The essay attempts to distinguish modern sadistic behavior from historical cruelty and literary fantasy. Its framework remains rooted in period sexology and popular psychology, but its significance lies in naming sadism as a contemporary social and psychological phenomenon rather than merely an antiquarian curiosity.
Research into Hatsuhana Village, beginning on PDF page 28, approaches an apparently folkloric or local subject through maps, diagrams, and explanatory prose. The article shows how the magazine repeatedly borrows the authority of ethnography, geography, and field research. Specialized desire is given roots in place, custom, and tradition.
My Memories, beginning on PDF page 30, uses a first-person framework and repeated illustrations of women lying or restrained. The degree of autobiography cannot be determined, but the piece gives private recollection the visual texture of confession. Memory becomes another literary form through which erotic experience is made publishable.

An Illustrated Tale of a Beautiful Punishment Ground, beginning on PDF page 106, is among the issue’s key visual features. It treats the punishment setting itself as an aesthetic construction. Architecture, equipment, clothing, pose, and spectatorship are arranged to produce atmosphere. The “punishment ground” has become less a historical location than a designed erotic stage.
The issue’s concluding sequence includes another confession by a female student, a “Madame” narrative, recollections of a person repatriated from Communist China, further records of abuse, the tenth installment of Fire, a study of how punishment stages are constructed, the fifth installment from a masochist’s notebook, and The Sweet Surrender of Alice, Part Three.
The technical article on the Construction of a Punishment-Ground Stage is especially consequential. It makes explicit what the issue has been doing visually from its opening pages: designing spaces in which bodies, ropes, furniture, posts, and sight lines produce a controlled fantasy. Rope is no longer merely a prop inside narrative. It belongs to a complete apparatus of staging.

October 1953 shows Kitan Club becoming increasingly self-conscious about erotic production.
