Summary

The February 1954 issue of Kitan Club combines rope diagrams, imported American fetish illustration, staged bondage photography, historical punishment art, urban fiction, recurring confessional voices, literary criticism, seppuku research, masochistic memoir, female-dominance narratives, and several substantial works omitted from the earlier review.
Its opening visual portfolio presents restraint as a system that can be compared across materials and cultures. Rubber cord, rope, chains, rigid supports, bridles, gags, corsetry, architectural fixtures, and domestic furniture each produce different bodily shapes. Rather than treating bondage as one undifferentiated act, the issue teaches readers to distinguish media, positions, settings, and visual effects.
PDF page 5 begins with Takiko’s Methods of Binding with Rubber Cord. Six figures are arranged against a blank field and shown from several angles. The absence of narrative scenery makes the page resemble a technical diagram, although it offers none of the anatomical or emergency guidance expected from modern rope instruction.
Itō Seiu’s A Scene from a Mask Play, on PDF page 7, takes the opposite approach. Restraint is embedded in a crowded historical tableau of architecture, costume, performers, masks, and spectators. Bondage appears as one component within a larger theatrical and punishment-ground tradition.
PDF pages 8–11 introduce imported illustrations of women bridled, led, gagged, trained, whipped, and attached to apparatus. Presented as American or Western material, they give readers an international archive of erotic discipline. Fantasy, commercial illustration, and supposed documentation are not consistently separated.
The Western-style photographic studies on PDF pages 12–13 use corsetry, high heels, chains, and sparse studio backgrounds. With most scenery stripped away, posture and silhouette become the main subjects. Minamikawa Kazuko’s drawings on PDF pages 14–15 similarly use broad dark shapes, cigarette smoke, and compact poses to turn restraint into graphic composition.
Until the Monkey Gag, on PDF pages 16–18, presents restraint as a progression. A woman is controlled on tatami, partially undressed, bound, and gagged in successive photographs. The sequence constructs a fictional captivity narrative, but the model’s interior experience cannot be inferred from posture or expression.
The female-controlled scene on PDF page 19 expands the issue’s hierarchy beyond the usual male tormentor. One woman restrains another, making female authority visible as part of the magazine’s developing repertoire.
PDF pages 22–25 contain an elaborate suite of imaginary punishment chambers. Posts, platforms, ladders, furniture, ritual fixtures, and suspension points determine how bodies are displayed. Architecture is not passive scenery. It becomes an erotic machine.
The illustrated narrative House of Pleasurable Torment, on PDF pages 26–33, carries this apparatus-oriented imagination into fiction. Dense prose is repeatedly interrupted by scenes of restraint, suspension, observation, and improvised equipment, making image and narrative operate together.
The principal prose section begins with Pleasure in the Ginza Backstreets, on PDF page 35. The story relocates erotic secrecy into contemporary Tokyo. Ginza’s polished commercial surface conceals private rooms, transactions, and specialized appetites, shifting the magazine away from exclusively historical settings.
Human Candlestick, beginning on PDF page 43, transforms the body into ritual furniture and illumination. Submission becomes an arranged ceremony in which a person serves simultaneously as participant, object, and ornament.
Spiders and Butterflies, Part Five, beginning on PDF page 47, continues one of the magazine’s central symbolic structures. The spider represents patient control and enclosure; the butterfly represents beauty, movement, and vulnerability. Serialization allows the metaphor to become familiar to returning readers.
Scattered Red Leaves, beginning on PDF page 56, frames a woman’s seppuku through melodrama, ritual history, and bodily danger. The historical frame gives cultural gravity to an image that also functions as fetish spectacle.
Yūko and Punishment, beginning on PDF page 63, continues the recurring female voice associated with Furukawa Yūko. Its degree of autobiography cannot be established, but the first-person structure allows punishment and humiliation to be interpreted by a recurring female persona rather than solely by outside observers.
Murata Seiichi’s Seme in Modern Literature, beginning on PDF page 72, turns punishment into a category of criticism. Readers are invited to identify coercion, suffering, and humiliation across contemporary fiction, becoming connoisseurs rather than passive consumers.
Exemplary Prisoner, beginning on PDF page 79, uses incarceration as a system of surveillance, regulated conduct, and internalized obedience. The prison supplies a ready-made hierarchy in which discipline extends beyond physical restraint.
Human or Horse?, beginning on PDF page 88, adapts foreign literary material concerning unstable boundaries between the human and animal. The article’s translation and commentary place transformation, discipline, and bodily identity inside an international literary framework.

Itō Seiu’s Nonfiction: Sexual Fluids, beginning on PDF page 153, draws on festival customs, folklore, sexual practice, and personal recollection. Like much of Seiu’s writing, it moves freely between antiquarian observation and erotic anecdote, using historical custom as a route into bodily material usually excluded from polite discourse.
Murata Seiichi’s A Study of Exceptional Men: The Head Clerk of Shimaya, beginning on PDF page 159, examines an unusual historical male figure through anecdotes, dictionaries, popular history, and urban lore. It extends the magazine’s classificatory impulse beyond female restraint and masochism into eccentric masculinity and sexual reputation.
Revenge, by Okada Sakiko, begins on PDF page 165 and continues through page 176. Its numbered episodes depict a woman captured, confined, restrained, threatened, and subjected to escalating abuse. The story uses revenge to justify a prolonged fictional ordeal, making captivity the structure through which narrative suspense is sustained.
Cruel Women, translated by Morimoto Aizō, begins on PDF page 177 under the German heading Das Grausame Weib. This continuation gathers European historical examples of women exercising domination, punishment, and ownership. Female cruelty is presented not as an isolated anomaly but as a recurring international pattern.
Female Self-Abuse Illustrations, by Mitsutomi Kōsei, begins on PDF page 181. It presents female self-directed suffering as an aesthetic and psychological subject, moving the source of punishment from an external tormentor to the woman herself.
Kawabata Tanako’s Getting Free: On Pleasure, beginning on PDF page 187, uses a first-person account of escape from rope restraint. The article is significant because it focuses on the sensations and mental process of the restrained person rather than only on the completed visual pose.
The final major work, A Guilty Woman, by Sakurai Kyōichirō, runs from PDF pages 189–207. Advertised as a provocative novella by an author drawing on personal experience with crotch rope, it follows a woman through urban encounters, manipulation, sexuality, and humiliation. The story occupies nearly the entire closing section and therefore forms the issue’s actual literary conclusion.
